Men's basketball falls in overtime thriller to Morrisville State

READING, PA (December 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball overcame a 14-point second half deficit to force overtime, but were unable to finish off the comeback in an 85-78 setback to Morrisville State College on Friday evening in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Beaver Community Center.

Darren Major tallied seven points and Amir Davis hit two 3-pointers in the final six minutes to help the Nittany Lions chip away at the Mustangs 62-48 lead with 6:39 to go in regulation. Morrisville State went ahead by two points off a 3-pointer with nine seconds left, but Dameon Nixon took an inbound pass and went coast-to-coast for a layup to even the game with five seconds left. The Mustangs tried a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but Major swatted the shot out of bounds as time expired.

In the overtime period, the Mustangs jumped out to an early five point lead and would not look back the rest of the way. A layup by Christian Burggraf with 51 seconds left cut the deficit to four points, but that is as close as the Nittany Lions would get.

Major led the Nittany Lions with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. Tom Smith recorded a double-double with 16 points and a contest-high 11 rebounds. Burgraff chipped in 14 points, six boards, three assists, and three steals during 38 very effective minutes on the floor. Davis rounded out the Nittany Lions in double figures with 10 points. Nixon recorded eight points, seven boards, and seven assists.

Jordan Prior led the Mustangs with 21 points, followed by Brandon Hanks with 18. Kucjok Ater and Jailaan Kinsey each chipped in 12 points.

The Nittany Lions will host Cazenovia College in a NEAC contest on Saturday, December 7 at 1 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
