Nittany Lions pick up conference win over Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 25, 2013) – The Penn State Berks men's basketball team cruised to a 58-40 victory over Gallaudet University in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on Monday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (1-3, 1-0 NEAC) led 30-19 at halftime and came out of the intermission with a 10-0 run to take total control of the game.

Tom Smith tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 points. The senior center shot 4-for-5 from the floor to raise his career total in points to 999. Smith's next point will make him just the second person in program history to reach the prestigious 1,000 point club. He also brought down nine rebounds and handed out three assists.

Dameon Nixon and Darren Major also chipped in 11 points for the Nittany Lions. Nixon collected seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Joel Ellison scored a season-high eight points and recorded seven boards, while fellow starter Christian Burggraf added six points. J.C. Keaton and Shavoy Murray both knocked down shots from beyond the arc. Jaleel Williams and Michael Human recorded two points.

The Bison (0-4, 0-1 NEAC) received 15 points from Joshua McGriff and 10 by Orion Palmer.

The Nittany Lions will host Alvernia University in a non-conference contest at Beaver Community Center on Saturday, November 30 at 2 p.m.
