Nittany Lions drop home opener to Albright



READING, PA (November 23, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team suffered a 92-75 setback to Albright College in a non-conference contest at Beaver Community Center on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions led 15-14 midway through the first half, but Albright used a 20-4 run to build a double digit lead. The Lions led by 13 points at halftime and the closest Berks would get was 48-38 with 16:53 left in the game.

Tom Smith and Dameon Nixon led the Nittany Lions with 16 points, followed by Christian Burggraf with 13. Darren Major rounded out the Berks scorers in double figures with 12 points. Nixon also recorded eight assists, six rebounds, and two steals.

Smith became the all-time leader in rebounds in program history after he pulled down eight boards to raise his career total to 542. He surpassed previous record holder JEFF SCHMIDT (539), who is now a member of the coaching staff. Smith also had three assists, three steals, and blocked two shots.

The Lions, who had four players reach double figures, were led by Reuel Moore's 18 points coming off the bench, followed by Sameen Swint with 16. Pedro Perez added 11 points and Evan Ward chipped in 10. Kyle Jordan had a contest-high nine rebounds.

The Penn State Berks athletics department accepted canned goods and monetary donations for admission to the contest. The fans donated two large boxes worth of canned goods and gave $96.87.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for their North Eastern Athletic Conference opener on Monday, November 25 at 2 p.m.
