Nittany Lions comeback falls short against Immaculata



IMMACULATA, PA, (Nov. 21, 2013) – The Penn State Berks men's basketball team made a late push that came up short in a 78-70 setback in a non-conference contest to Immaculata University on Thursday evening at Alumnae Hall. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions trailed nine at the intermission and were able to cut the deficit to 42-39 with 15:52 remaining in the game. The Mighty Macs jumped out to a double-digit lead, but again Berks fought back and were down by five points with just 28 seconds left to go, but a pair of free throws gave Immaculata a safe cushion during the waning seconds of the contest.

Dameon Nixon had a team-high 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor as the Nittany Lions finished with four players scoring in double figures. Darren Major chipped in 13 points, while Amir Davis Jr. added 12. Senior center Tom Smith finished with 10 points.

Jaleel Williams pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds, followed by Smith and Christian Burggraf with five a piece.

The Mighty Macs were led by Jose Ortiz with 22 points, while Mamadou Diakite recorded 16 and Tyreek Peeples added 14. Diakite had a contest-high 16 boards.

The Nittany Lions will host Albright College in their home opener on Saturday, November 23 at 3 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
