Nittany Lions fall in season opener to Gwynedd-Mercy



GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA (November 19, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped its season opener, 90-53, on the road to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Tuesday afternoon at Griffin Complex. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (0-1) hung tough through the first half, trailing 38-25 at the halftime intermission. But the Griffins (2-1) jumped out strong in the second half to pull away with the victory.

Darren Major led the Nittany Lions with 15 points, all of which came in the second half and from beyond the arc. He finished the contest 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range. Christian Burggraf and Dameon Nixon each chipped in 10 points. Nixon also registered a team-high six rebounds and six assists.

The Griffins had three players reach double-digits in scoring, led by Arron Goodman with a contest-high 18 points. He also pulled led both squads with 17 boards to record a double-double.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Thursday, November 21 with a road contest at Immaculata University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
