Nittany Lions drop regular season finale

READING, PA (April 24, 2012) - Four players were honored for Senior Day prior to the 2012 regular-season finale against Ursinus College on Tuesday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field. The Nittany Lions dropped the contest by a score of 6-0.

The illustrious careers of Michael Ference, Kevin Heilman, Rich Schlamowitz and Aaron Stupp were each celebrated before the game. The quartet posed for pictures and received heartwarming applaud as their career accomplishments were read over the loudspeaker.

Five pitchers combined to limit the Nittany Lions (13-21) to just three hits. Christian Marcin singled to opposite field to lead off the bottom of the third, but Berks couldn't translate it into any runs. Ryan Zawaski singled in the fifth and Kyle Hartman had a single in the seventh inning.

Heilman reached base on an error in the bottom of the first and swiped second base for his first steal of the season.

Dusten Rutt, Hartman and Logan Kurtz each threw one inning of scoreless relief. Kurtz, pitching for the first time this season, received defensive help to get out of his inning unscathed. With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Bears lined a ball to left field that was slicing toward the foul line. Cody Kauffman tracked it down and laid out with a head first dive to make the final out.

The Nittany Lions won the NEAC regular-season and will host the conference tournament this weekend. They will face No. 4 seed SUNYIT on Friday, April 27.
