Women's tennis wins third straight

Box Score LANCASTER, PA (April 11, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis squad cruised to a 9-0 win over Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions won their third straight contest to improve to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers fall to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

All three of the doubles matches were won by a score of 8-3. Crystal Hitz and Arion Harris defeated Bri Funk and Kayla Scott in the first doubles flight. Elizabeth Kehm and Amanda Fuller improved their doubles record to 4-4 with the win at the second spot. Kristina Hatterand Samantha Warga rounded out the sweep in doubles action at the No. 3 match.

Hitz made quick work in her singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. She has now won her last four matches, with no opponent taking more than two matches in a set from her.

Kehm won by set scores of 6-2, 6-2 at third singles, while Fuller was a 6-0 6-1 winner at the fourth spot. Warga (6-3, 6-3) cruised to a win at No. 6 to improve to 4-2 in singles play.

Arion Harris fell 7-5 in her first set, but bounced back with a 6-2 win to force a decisive third set. Harris battled to the very end to emerge with a 6-4 victory at second singles. Hatter won 7-2 in her first set tiebreaker to pick up a 7-6 win. She followed with a convincing 6-1 win in the second set to clinch the match.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Harrisburg for an NEAC contest on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
