Women's tennis falls to Messiah in spring opener

Box Score GRANTHAM, PA (March 26, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team played strong in all the matches in its spring opener, but Messiah College prevailed with a 9-0 win on Monday afternoon. (Boxscore)

In No. 1 doubles, Crystal Hitz and Aimee Hoffman were narrowly edged by a score of 8-5 to Sarah Brookhart and Erin Ipsen. The No. 2 (Amanda Fuller and Elizabeth Kehm) and No. 3 (Arion Harris and Kristina Hatter) teams each fell 8-3 in doubles play.

In singles action, Samantha Warga battled very hard against Michell Curtis, falling by scores of 6-3 and 7-5 at sixth singles. Hitz lost 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles, while Hoffman fell 6-3, 6-2.

The Nittany Lions will host Alvernia University on Wednesday, March 28 at 4 p.m.
