Men's basketball earn road win over SUNYIT

UTICA, NY - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team got back on its winning ways with a 77-71 victory over SUNYIT in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) battle on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 5-13 overall and 5-5 in conference play. They are currently a half game behind Keuka College for the final playoff spot with four conference contests remaining. The Wildcats fell to 3-17 overall and 2-8 in the NEAC.

Dontez Reid continued his scoring spree with 15 points, marking the sixth straight game where he reached double figures. During that stretch, he has raised his points per game average from 6.8 to 10.4, which is third on the team. Tom Smith had 12 points and recorded a team-high eight rebounds and eight steals. Connor Hough added 12 points and Shawn Green finished with 10. Jon Skinner chipped in a career-high eight points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.

The Nittany Lions only led 37-36 at halftime and trailed the Wildcats by seven points with 14:03 left to play. From that point on there were five lead changes, with Berks going ahead for good on a 3-pointer by Reid with 3:05 remaining.

The Wildcats had four players finish in double digits, led by T'Andre Richardson's contest-high 22 points. Sejad Gromilic netted 16 points and handed out eight assists. Alex Grimmer finished with 14 points and Ryan James added 11. Derek Rowe had a game-high 13 boards to help the Wildcats outrebound Berks by a 37-30 margin.

The Nittany Lions men's and women's teams will host Penn State Abington on Wednesday, Febrary 8 in their first annual "Pink Games". Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County
