Men's basketball pick up non-conference win at Hazleton



HAZLETON, PA (February 11, 2012) - Tom Smith recorded a double-double to lead the Penn State Berks men's basketball team to a 71-54 non-conference win over Penn State Hazleton on Saturday evening.

The Nittany Lions (7-13) trailed by 35-33 at the break, but the defense turned up the pressure as Berks outscored Hazleton 38-19 in the second half.

Smith finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season and the ninth of his career. Ryan Rooney and Kemian Flowers are tied with the most career double-doubles at Berks with 10. Smith went 7-of-10 shooting from teh floor and converted 7-of-8 free throw attempts.

Shawn Green tallied 13 points and had a contest-high five steals, while Connor Hough chipped in 12 points. Jeff Schmidt had nine points, 12 rebounds and handed out five assists. Dontez Reid finished with eight points and four assists.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, February 15 at 6 p.m.
