Reid scorches net, but Nittany Lions fall to Rutgers-Camden

READING, PA (February 1, 2012) – Dontez Reid led all scorers with 23 points, but the Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped its non-conference contest, 85-71, to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday evening at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (4-13) were down 44-38 at half and trailed by just two points with 13:01 remaining in the game, but the Scarlet Raptors (4-17) wouldn't surrender the lead.

Reid knocked down six 3-pointers, matching a personal-best set last season against Morrisville State. He connected from long distance four times in the first half alone. Reid finished the contest 7-of-12 from the field and converted on 3-of-4 trips at the foul line.

Jeff Schmidt (13 points) and Connor Hough (12 points) rounded out the Nittany Lions in double-figures. Schmidt, who has a streak of nine straight games with a least one blocked shot, is second in the conference with a 1.6 blocks per game average. Tore Turner finished the game with eight points and a team-high five assists.

The Scarlet Raptors shot lights out, going 61.4% from the field and 53.3% from beyond the arc. Mike Payne led the team with 19 points, followed by Kyle Bowman with 17. Michael Williams added 15 points and Woody Redding chipped in 10.

The Nittany Lions will return to conference action on Saturday, February 4 at SUNYIT. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
