Nittany Lions down Cairn University, 8-1

Box Score READING, PA (October 8, 2012) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over Cairn University in a chilly non-conference contest on Monday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions (2-2) took control of match early by sweeping the the doubles portion of the contest. Crystal Hitz and Elizabeth Kehm earned an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Kristina Hatter and Liz Martinez won by the same score in the second flight. Allison Monkman and Gloria Kim, who were playing together for the first time this season, were 8-3 winners at the No. 3 spot.

Hitz (No. 1) and Taylor Keselica (No. 6) each won their respective singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Martinez, playing out of the No. 4 spot, won 6-0, 6-0. Arion Harris won her match at No. 2 singles won her match in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Hatter won 6-2 in the first set and clinched the victory with a 7-5 win in the second set tiebreaker (7-6).

The Nittany Lions will host Neumann University on Tuesday, October 9 at 4 p.m.
