READING, PA (September 26, 2011) – CRYSTAL HITZ won her singles and doubles matches to help lead the Penn State Berks women's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Immaculata University in Monday's non-conference contest at Gring's Mill.
The Nittany Lions bounced back from a tough 6-3 setback to Baptist Bible last week, improving to 2-1 overall in their home opener.
Hitz and ARION HARRIS were victorious out of the No. 1 doubles slot, defeating Felicia Thomas and Theresa Martini by a score of 8-5. Hitz also earned a victory in the first singles flight with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Harris also went unbeaten on the day after winning 6-0, 6-1 in singles (No. 3).
Amanda Fuller and ELIZABETH KEHM took the second doubles match by a score of 8-3 to help the Nittany Lions head into singles play with a 2-1 advantage. Fuller won at No. 4 singles by a 6-2, 6-1 score, while Kehm won a pro-set, 8-4, at fifth singles. SAMANTHA WARGA cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win playing out of the No. 6 spot.
The Nittany Lions will host Cedar Crest College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7 at Gring's Mills. The match was originally scheduled as the season opener on September 15, but had to be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions.
