READING, PA (February 6, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest with Morrisville State by a score of 97-81 on Sunday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.
The loss puts the Lions in a tie with Morrisville State at 7-7 in the NEAC standings for the sixth and final playoff spot. Overall, Berks is now 7-12, while the Mustangs improve to 9-11.
The Mustangs mounted a solid 56-40 lead going into the halftime intermission and were able to cruise the rest of the way.
Tom Smith had a team-high 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the floor and a perfect showing at the foul line (6-for-6). Smith also grabbed 12 boards for his fourth double-double of the season. Tore Turner added 13 points and Shawn Green chipped in 12. Dontale King (11 points) rounded out the Lions in double-digits.
Both teams drained eight 3-pointers, with the Mustangs converting 50% of their attempts. The Lions finished 40% from long distance, Dontez Reid made a team-high three.
The Mustangs had five players finish with 12 or more points. Darren Green had led the way with 20 points, followed by Kucjok Ater with 18.
The Lions will travel to Gallaudet University on Wednesday for a NEAC contest at 7 p.m.
