AURORA, N.Y. (February 13, 2011) - Nate Weldon recorded a career high in points and rebounds, but the Penn State Berks men's basketball team fell, 89-76, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Wells College on Sunday afternoon.
The Express (13-10, 12-4 NEAC) moved ahead of Penn State Harrisburg for first place in the conference. The loss drops the Nittany Lions (8-15, 8-9 NEAC) to a game and half back of SUNY Cobleskill for the final playoff spot.
Weldon finished tied for the team-lead with 19 points and brought down 22 rebounds (11 offensive, 11 defensive). He also registered two of the team's six blocks. Weldon had zero turnovers in 27 very effective minutes of play.
Tore Turner went 9-for-10 at the foul line and matched Weldon's 19 points. Tom Smith added 13 points, six boards and three blocks. Dontale King chipped in eight points and dished out team-high five assists.
The Nittany Lions found themselves in a big hole, trailing 51-31 at halftime. The Lions cut the deficit to single digits (77-68) with 5:29 to play, but they would get no closer.
The Express had five players finish in double figures, led by Benito Perez's game-high 20 points. Mabior Mayen (18 points, 18 rebounds) and Terry Harrison (14 points, 11 boards) each notched double-doubles in the victory.
The Lion's will host their final home game of the season against Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The contest also marks the final conference game of the season.
