KEUKA PARK, N.Y. (February 12, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a 56-44 setback to Keuka College in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Weeds Physical Arts Center.
The Nittany Lions (11-11, 10-9 NEAC) remained a half game ahead of SUNY Cobleskill for fifth place in the conference standings. The Storm (20-1, 19-1 NEAC) jumped into first place by a half game after No. 18 ranked Gallaudet University dropped its first game of the season.
It was the first time this season that the Lions did not have anyone score in double figures. STEPH BINDER had a team-high eight points, while EMILY PUFNOCK and JAMIE NORRIS each had seven. Norris registered six blocks, which set a Penn State Berks single-game record.
The Storm were led on offense by Brittany Shrock and Morgan Engelbert's 10 points. Heather Fish had a game-high 14 rebounds, as Keuka won the battle of the boards 57-39.
Despite what the score reads, the blue-and-white played hard for all 40 minutes of the game and never gave up. Berks only converted 10 turnovers throughout the contest. The Lions took a 29-23 advantage into the intermission, but poor shooting in the second half squandered that lead. Berks shot 14% (4-for-27) out of the break and did not make any of the 19 attempts from 3-point range for the game.
Berks will look to bounce back tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Wells College.
