Turner drops 20, but Nittany Lions fall to Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, PA (November 30, 2011) - Tore Turner finished two points shy of his career-best, but it wasn't enough as the Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest with Kutztown University, 95-66, on Wednesday evening at Keystone Arena.

Turner finished with a contest-high 20 points after fearlessly driving to the hoop against the Division II powerhouse Golden Bears (2-2). The junior guard shot 7-for-13 from the field and converted 6-of-7 at the foul line. Turner's three assists and three steals led the Nittany Lions (0-2).

Shawn Green caught fire in the second half with three 3-pointers in a span of three and a half minutes to finish with nine points. Wanyae Hartsfield and Tom Smith each tallied eight points, while Tim Smith added seven. Nate Weldon had a team-best eight rebounds.

The Nittany Lions, playing for the first time in 15 days, jumped out to 7-2 lead in the early going. Kutztown used an 18-0 run to take control of the game and never looked back. The Golden Bears finished with four players scoring in double-figures, led by Devon McBride with 19. Eric Brennan added 17 points and 10 boards, while Mike John also netted 17 points.

Berks will open up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Saturday, December 3 at noon on the road at Penn State Harrisburg.
