Men's hoops fall to DeSales in season opener



CENTER VALLEY, PA (November 15, 2011) – Shawn Green was one of three Nittany Lions to finish in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Penn State Berks men's basketball team fell to DeSales University, 72-58, in the season opener on Tuesday evening at Billera Hall.

The Nittany Lions closed out the first half on a 15-9 run to take a 33-32 lead into the halftime intermission. After the break, however, the Bulldogs shot 6-of-8 from 3-point land and 65.0% from the floor to take control of the contest.

Green finished with a contest-high 18, including the first 12 points of the second half for the Nittany Lions. He shot 6-of-12 from the floor and knocked down three 3-pointers. Green recorded a contest-high and personal-best six steals.

Jeff Schmidt and Wanyae Hartsfield both knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 10 points for the Nittany Lions. Tore Turner chipped in six points and four assists, while Dontez Reid had a team-high five rebounds.

The Bulldogs were paced by Brett Moyer's 14 points, followed by Bob Zanneo with 13. Kyle Hash added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Kutztown University on Wednesday, November 30 beginning at 7 p.m.
