MORRISVILLE, N.Y. (January 8, 2011) - Dontez Reid had a personal-best 24 points and the Penn State Berks men's basketball team came back from a late deficit to beat Morrisville State 65-62 in Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.
After Reid knocked down his sixth 3-pointer of the game, Connor Hough converted a pair of foul shots and a Michael Perone jumper gave the Lions a 62-61 lead with 1:33 remaining. Berks maintained the lead from there to improve to 4-7 overall and 4-2 in the NEAC. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak.
Neither squad was able to build much of a lead. The Lions largest lead of the day was five in the beginning of the second half and the Mustangs (3-7, 2-3 NEAC) biggest margin was only four points.
Freshman Shawn Green, who cracked the starting lineup for the first time this season, had a career-high 12 points. Tom Smith had a game-high 11 rebounds and chipped in eight points. Hough also netted eight, while Perone scored seven and Bryan Tarole had six.
Reid was 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and 9-for-14 from the floor to surpass his previous high of 18 points, which came against SUNY Cobleskill last February. The sophomore guard had a stretch early in the first half where he scored eight straight Berks points.
Morrisville State found  their way to the free throw line 26 times, luckily for the Lions only eight were converted for points. Berks shot 7-of-9 at the charity stripe.
The Lions return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. in a NEAC contest at Cazenovia.
