ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (January 5, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's basketball returned to action after a 17 day layoff, falling 97-59 in a non-conference contest to Elizabethtown College on Wednesday night at Thompson Gymnasium.
It was the third straight loss for the Nittany Lions (3-7), while Elizabethtown improves to 9-1 overall.
Michael Perone drained four 3-pointers and finished with a team-best 14 points. RORY SULLIVAN scored a season-high 10 points to round out the Berks players in double figures.
The Blue Jays were in control throughout the contest, taking a 49-22 lead into the halftime intermission. Elizabethtown shot a blistering 52.0% (39-for-75) from the field, while Berks was held to 32.8% shooting. The Blue Jays also held a 55-35 advantage in rebounds.
Shawn Green knocked down two 3's and matched a season-high nine points. CONNOR HOUGH, DONTEZ REID and Thomas Smith each finished with six points.
The Blue Jays were led by Joe Flanagan's 18 points, while Andrew Mantz added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Penn State Berks will return to conference action with a road trip to Morrisville State on Saturday and Cazenovia on Sunday. The Lions will return home the following weekend when they host Wells and Keuka.
