Women's basketball drops heartbreaker to Cobleskill

READING, PA (December 5, 2010) - Jamie Norris gave a strong all-around performance for the Penn State Berks women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as SUNY Cobleskill squeaked out an 81-79 overtime win in Sunday's North Eastern Athletic Conference contest at Beaver Community Center.

With 5 seconds remaining in regulation and trailing 67-65, Norris forced the overtime period with a reverse layup. Norris notched her first double-double after pulling down a career-best 16 rebounds and netting 12 points, which is one shy of her personal-high. In 34 very effective minutes, Norris also registered three blocks and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Emily Pufnock scored the first nine points of overtime for the Nittany Lions (2-4, 1-2 NEAC), to finish the contest with 13 points. Jasmine Harris-Kane drained a clutch 3-pointer with 22 seconds remaining to even the contest at 79. After a timeout, the Fighting Tigers got the winning basket when Chelcy Moore grabbed an offensive rebound and immediately put it back for two with 4 seconds on the clock.

The Nittany Lions had a chance to win as time expired, but Shakiyla Stone's 3 ricocheted off the front of the rim.

Stone finished with 11 points, while Taylor Kreider matched a season-high 15 to round out the Nittany Lions in double-figures. Steph Binder also owned the glass with a season-high 14 rebounds. She also scored eight points to raise her career total to 978.

The Nittany Lions shot a red hot 27-for-30 from the free throw line. The Fighting Tigers also had a strong performance at the charity stripe, converting 23-of-32.

The Lions will travel to Penn State Harrisburg for a 6 p.m. NEAC contest.
