READING — The Penn State Berks men's soccer team (2-6-2, 1-0) began their United East conference action as they hosted Gallaudet University (0-7-0, 0-1) on Saturday, September 26. Berks put up four first half goals on their way to a 4-0 win over the Bison.
Berks generated the first-half scoring and carried a 4-0 lead into halftime, with
Terridine Grant scoring twice before
Nicolas Harrison and
Keegan Redcay struck in the closing minutes. Earlier,
Gavin Dai forced two saves and
Emir Hamzic forced another before Grant opened the scoring at 14:09 off assists from
Rylan Smith and Dai. The Nittany Lions kept the pressure on after that goal, adding five shots and a corner from 15:20 to 22:48, while
Josh Martin made a save on Gallaudet's chance at 23:35. Grant made it 2-0 at 27:23 with assists from Redcay and
Callan Stuck, and Berks followed with six shots and two corners before Harrison scored from
Sean Leeser and
Christian Salguero at 43:43 and Redcay finished from Leeser and Harrison at 44:30.
The Blue & White kept the match at 4-0 through the second half while creating most of the attacking activity, finishing the half with 18 shots and eight corner kicks. The pressure started immediately after halftime, with Smith, Dai and
Jorge Maymo taking early shots before
Amani Pierre had a penalty kick saved by Gallaudet goalkeeper John McCabe in the 48th minute. Berks continued to create chances through the middle of the half, including
Logan Henzes' shots in the 53rd, 62nd and 66th minutes and
Kristian Kachorov forcing another save in the 65th. After Gallaudet's lone shot of the half went wide in the 70th minute, the Nittany Lions answered with consecutive corners and chances from Redcay and
Malachi Raiger, whose two shots were both saved. Berks added late set-piece pressure with corners in the 80th and 90th minutes and closed out the scoreless half to finish the match with a 4-0 win.
Terridine Grant scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and put two of his three shots on goal. Harrison finished with a goal and an assist while taking four shots, two on frame. Dai recorded an assist and led the Nittany Lions with six shots, including five on goal. Redcay added a goal and an assist on three shots.
