READING — The Penn State Berks men's soccer team (2-7-2, 1-1) hosted Penn College (5-3-3, 2-0) on Tuesday, September 29 in United East action. Berks had a late goal in the game but fell to the Wildcats 3-1.
Berks absorbed early pressure, holding Penn College scoreless through the opening 12-plus minutes despite facing four corner kicks and three shots.
Callan Stuck put the Nittany Lions' first shot high at 19:23, but Penn College went ahead on Scott Goldfeder's penalty kick at 24:38. The Blue & White pushed for a response late in the half, earning corners at 41:46 and 42:38 around
Landon Schadt's saved shot to the bottom left. Penn College added a goal by Robert Antonini with three seconds left, sending Berks into halftime down 2-0.
Berks absorbed a Penn College push from 52:31 to 64:25 that included 10 shots and two corners, with
Patrick Martin saving Diego Diaz's shot during a stretch that ended with the score still 0-2. The Blue & White also created chances through Grant and
Emir Hamzic, but the Wildcats added to their lead at the 72nd minute to make it 3-0.
Rylan Smith put in the Nittany Lions' lone goal with under a minute left off a pass by
Terridine Grant, but Berks would be unable to make the comeback as they fell 3-1.
Smith scored on his lone shot while Grant recorded an assist on the night.Martin played all 90 minutes and finished with five saves.
