READING — The Penn State Berks men's soccer team (1-6-2) hosted Carlow University (1-5) on Tuesday, September 22. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, Berks scored three second half goals and went on to take down the Celtics 3-1.
Berks created much of the first-half pressure, putting together nine shots and three corners, but Carlow converted at 28:30 on Eric Fowler's goal assisted by Devan Donskoy. Earlier,
Marcus Henderson hit the left woodwork in the fourth minute, and
Josh Martin answered Carlow's first shot on goal with a save to keep the match scoreless. The Nittany Lions kept pressing through the middle of the half, with
Terridine Grant forcing a save,
Rylan Smith missing left and
Gavin Dai adding two attempts shortly after Carlow's goal. Grant put two more shots on frame before halftime, including one after a 35th-minute corner, but Berks went into the break trailing 1-0.
Berks turned a 1-0 second-half deficit into a 3-1 victory, scoring three times between the 51:44 and 57:49 marks. The response began as the Nittany Lions earned four corner kicks from 49:46 to 53:24, got a shot from
Emir Hamzic and a saved attempt from
Terridine Grant, and pulled even on
Callan Stuck's goal at 51:44.
Logan Shupp put Berks ahead at 53:55 off an assist from Hamzic, then scored again at 57:49 with Stuck assisting to make it 3-1. The Blue & White continued to create after the lead, adding five shots and a corner between 65:45 and 74:01, while
Josh Martin made second-half saves at 47:26 and 86:29 as the home side closed out the final score.
Shupp scored twice on two shots on goal and was credited with the game-winning goal. Stuck added a goal and an assist for three points.
Josh Martin played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves.
Terridine Grant finished with four shots, putting all four on goal.
