READING — The Penn State Berks women's soccer team (2-4-1) took on FDU-Florham (5-1-2) in non-conference action on Monday, September 21. It was a scoreless first half, but three goals by the Devils saw the Nittany Lions fall 3-0 on the night.
Riley Fisher kept Berks level through a first-half stretch in which FDU-Florham put repeated shots on frame, making saves in the sixth, 13th, 16th, 24th and 25th minutes. Earlier, the Nittany Lions created their first looks through
Zoe Macknicki's shot in the fourth minute, a 10th-minute corner kick and
Maci Laster's saved attempt at 10:45. The Blue & White pushed again after the midpoint of the half, with
Ava Ortiz missing high in the 28th minute and
Stephanie Morales forcing another save in the 30th. Fisher added one more stop in the final minute, and Berks reached halftime without conceding as the first half finished scoreless.
The Nittany Lions created chances while down 1-0 from 68:17 to 76:12, producing a corner kick and six shots, including saves on
Lauren LeKites and Laster attempts and an Ortiz shot that hit the woodwork. Earlier in the second half, FDU-Florham went in front on Mackenzie Ferrara's goal in the 48th minute, and
Devon Deery put Berks' first shot of the half on frame in the 58th. Fisher made saves in the 63rd and 82nd minutes to keep the Nittany Lions within reach during FDU-Florham chances. FDU-Florham added goals in the 77th and 83rd minutes, and Berks finished the match with the 3-0 loss.
Fisher recorded eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Laster led the Nittany Lions with two shots on goal and tied for the team lead with three total shots. Ortiz also finished with three shots.
