READING — The Penn State Berks women's soccer team (3-4-1) had their fifth straight home contest and looked to add another win in the column as they took on Carlow University (1-4-1) on Tuesday, September 22. The Nittany Lions four first half goals on their way to a 6-0 win against the Celtics.
The Nittany Lions turned sustained first-half pressure into a 4-0 halftime lead, with
Stephanie Morales earning a hat trick in the first half before
Emily Erb added the fourth goal. After
Riley Fisher saved an early Carlow attempt, Berks created several chances through
Maci Laster, Morales and
Zoe Macknicki, and Morales opened the scoring at 8:52 off Laster's assist. Morales made it 2-0 at 14:59 from Macknicki and 3-0 at 22:19 from
Ava Ortiz, while the Blue & White kept the attack moving with shots from
Danica Aaronson,
Devon Deery,
Paige Thomas,
Anika Carpenter and others. Erb scored from Macknicki at 33:01 for the 4-0 lead, and Berks continued to generate chances while Fisher added another save in the 39th minute to help carry the four-goal advantage into halftime.
The Nittany Lions scored twice in the second half and kept Carlow off the board, finishing the match with a 6-0 win. Earlier,
Paige Thomas put a shot on frame in the 50th minute, and Fisher saved Carlow's chance at 52:28 before Berks resumed pressure with a corner and attempts by Laster and
Devon Deery. In a nine minute span, the Blue & White recorded five shots and two corner kicks while Carlow's goalkeeper saved shots from Deery and
Zoe Macknicki before Ortiz hit a free kick into the net to make it. Carlow later sent a shot off the right woodwork, but Berks added another corner and a Deery shot on goal before Morales capped off her evening with her fourth goal, this from an assist by Laster to conclude the day for a 6-0 Berks win.
Morales scored four goals on seven shots, put six attempts on goal and recorded the game-winning goal. Laster recorded two assists and led the Nittany Lions with eight shots. Ortiz added a goal and an assist on her only shot. Fisher made three saves over 90 minutes and recorded a shutout.
