READING, Pa. — The Penn State Berks Men's Soccer Team began their season with a 1-1 tie against Albright College on Wednesday, September 2.
The defenses held the game scoreless for the opening 20 minutes, with
Josh Martin keeping the match level with saves on Albright shots at 3:39 and 4:39. Berks also held through an Albright push from 19:56 to 20:49 that included two shots and two corners, with Martin making another save during that stretch. Brady Devito scored for Albright off a Will Garnett assist at 23:50. The Blue & White answered with a corner and
Aiden Turner shot before
Callan Stuck hit the equalizer for Berks at the 40th minute. Stuck's goal sent the first half toward a 1-1 finish, and
Peter Austin added another attempt before halftime ended tied 1-1.
Berks preserved the 1-1 score through Albright's late pressure, with
Josh Martin saving four shots in the final 1:13 minutes. Martin kept Albright out of the net as he made eight of his 11 saves in the second half. Martin also turned away attempts by Brady Devito and Bryce Peters as the Nittany Lions managed an opening Albright push that included four shots and a corner in the first 19 minutes of the half. Berks created its main attacking stretch from 68:07 to 75:25, which included a corner kick, when
Terridine Grant and
Gavin Dai put shots on frame, and Turner sent an attempt high right. The closing stretch included five fouls between the teams and six shot attempts in the final six minutes from the Lions, but the Blue & White kept Albright out of the net to earn the 1-1 tie.
Stuck scored Berks' goal on his only shot attempt and finished with two points.
Josh Martin played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded 11 saves, including eight in the second half. Turner led the Nittany Lions with two shots. For Albright, Brady Devito scored the goal for the Lions with Will Garnett assisting on the shot. Mike Lawry put up two saves in the goal for Albright.
