Laster Produces a Hat Trick; Women's Soccer Scores Six Goals Against Gwynned Mercy

READING — The Penn State Berks women's soccer team (2-2) began their six-game home stretch with Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) on Saturday, September 12. The Nittany Lions offense got on a roll as they took down the Griffins 6-0 in the non-conference contest.

Berks controlled the momentum from the get go, attempting 32 shots in the contest, with 19 of them coming in the first half while holding the Griffins to only five total attempts on the day. Maci Laster got Berks on the board first as she received a header pass from Paige Thomas and kicked the ball right over the goalies head for a 1-0 game at the 9:59 mark. Stephanie Morales joined in on the action as she got the ball down the left side, drove to the goalie line, and banked her shot in the top right to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead. Berks held onto that lead through the rest of the first half.

Berks kept up the scoring barrage in the second half with four goals during the next 45 minutes. Laster put up two goals in a 2:35 span to push the score to 4-0. After Morales sent an early attempt wide, Laster scored at 52:15 from a Kylee West past to make it 3-0. Laster drove down the field again to get her shot back in the net for the hat trick and make it a 4-0 game at the 54:50 mark. The Blue & White continued their offense game with Morales getting her second goal on the day from Zoe Macknicki at 73:44 mark. Riley Fisher made back-to-back saves in the 81st minute, and Keira Ollis put the final goal of the game in the net at the 83:38 mark for Berks to finish the game with a 6-0 victory.

Laster posted a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and led the Nittany Lions with nine shots. Morales added two goals on six shots. Ollis scored once and put both of her shots on goal. Fisher played all 90 minutes in goal, made two saves and recorded a shutout.
