READING — The Penn State Berks women's soccer team (2-3) fell in a 3-0 hole at the break to Moravian University (2-1-2). The Nittany Lions fought back in the second half and cut the deficit to one but ultimately fell to the Greyhounds 3-2 on Wednesday, September 16.
Berks had to chase the first half after Moravian scored at 5:15 and again at 6:01, putting the hosts down 2-0 early.
Ava Ortiz and
Anika Carpenter each forced additional saves after the half-hour mark, but Moravian added another goal at 36:20 on Casey Sabolsky's finish from Delaney Rowe. The Nittany Lions went into the break down 3-0
Berks began to push their offense in the second half and it paid off as
Paige Thomas scored the first goal for Nittany Lions at the 53rd mark off a
Devon Deery assist at 52:05 to have the game at 3-1 The Blue & White then generated pressure with saved shots from Ortiz and
Maci Laster, a corner kick, a Thomas attempt wide and another saved shot from Morales by the 62:45 mark. The home side kept pressing later in the half with
Sydney Gonzalez made her shot from a Thomas pass at the 88th minute to get the game at 3-2. Berks looked for one final attempt but were unable to pull off the comeback as they fell to Moravian 3-2.
Paige Thomas recorded a goal and an assist for three points while putting two of her three shots on goal.
Sydney Gonzalez scored on her lone shot attempt.
Devon Deery added an assist and put her shot on frame. Morales led Berks with four shots, including two on goal.

Up next, the Nittany Lions continue their home stretch as they welcome Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at 12 p.m. Berks will honor their seniors on Senior Day as well as recognize the 10 year anniversary of their 2016 squad.
