Men's Basketball Earns Critical Conference Victory

READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks defeated Penn State Abington by a score of 94-81 on Wednesday night at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center. The Nittany Lions utilized a strong transition game, outscoring Penn St.-Abington 33-16 in fast break points.

Berks opened the first half assertively, capitalizing on turnovers to score early through Josh Mingledolph's layup assisted by Isaiah Cotten, setting the tone. The home team excelled in fast-break opportunities, with Cotten contributing defensively with multiple steals that converted into points, including a fast-break dunk, expanding the lead. Despite responses from Abington, the Blue & White maintained pressure with efficient scoring in the paint and strong defensive rebounds. As the half progressed, Berks continued to control the pace, with Marquis Ferreira and Luke Collins facilitating ball movement, resulting in a 3-point shot and a layup that further extended their advantage. The home team ended the half with a solid defensive stand, maintaining a steady lead. The first half concluded with Berks leading 43-34.

The Nittany Lions capitalized on a strong start to the second half, extending their lead with a series of fast-break points. Zach Prator contributed significantly with consecutive layups, aided by assists from Mingledolph, pushing the score to 47-37 early on. The home team maintained pressure with effective ball movement, as evidenced by their 17 assists in the half. Jaedon Mast played a pivotal role, adding crucial points through a jumper and two free throws, enhancing the lead to 56-41. Ferreira and Cotten further bolstered the team's position with successful three-pointers. Despite a push from the visitors, Berks managed to sustain their lead through consistent scoring and key defensive rebounds, closing the half with a 94-81 advantage.

Ferreira scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the team in scoring. Prator added 25 points and recorded six rebounds, showcasing accuracy with 11 field goals made. Cotten contributed 13 points and was active on defense with six steals. Mingledolph facilitated the offense with 10 assists and chipped in seven points.
