Women's Basketball Drops Competitive Road Contest

LA PLUME, Pa. — Penn State Berk fell to Keystone College, 65-43, at Ace Spalding Arena, with Keystone capitalizing on 25 turnovers.

Penn State Berks began the first quarter with strong defensive rebounding, securing a total of 20 rebounds, including 8 on the offensive end. This effort contributed to a balanced scoring attack with Hailey Miller and Gabrielle Merritt making key contributions. Annie Laubach opened the scoring with a three-pointer, assisted by Gianna Roberts, and later added another three-pointer to maintain the lead. Despite turnovers, the Blue & White capitalized on fast breaks, scoring 6 points in transition, and made 4 of 6 free throws to sustain their momentum. Defensively, they limited Keystone to 4 of 20 shooting and just one three-pointer. The first quarter concluded with Berks leading 14–9.

The second quarter began with Keystone gaining momentum through strong defensive plays, capitalizing on turnovers by the Nittany Lions. Despite early contributions from Merritt, who secured offensive rebounds and added a free throw, Berks faced challenges maintaining possession and converting opportunities. Reagan Thorp and McKenzie Tritz both contributed defensively, but Berks struggled to find offensive rhythm, evidenced by several missed attempts and turnovers. As the quarter progressed, Roberts managed to score a fast-break jumper, assisted by Laubach, briefly providing a boost. However, Keystone responded effectively, pulling ahead with multiple three-pointers and layups, extending their lead. Berks closed the quarter with a jumper by Merritt as the clock expired, but Keystone held a commanding lead, 36-23, at the end of the quarter.

Penn State Berks initiated the third quarter with a concerted effort on the boards, securing five offensive rebounds which contributed to nine second-chance points. Miller led the charge with timely baskets, including a notable three-pointer at 7:03, assisted by Roberts, that helped cut into the deficit. Despite Keystone's defensive pressure, which resulted in six steals, the Nittany Lions maintained their momentum by executing efficiently from the paint and beyond the arc. Merritt added a crucial three-pointer at 4:50, keeping the visitors competitive. The quarter concluded with a notable contribution from Jalyn Hann, who scored a jumper with 20 seconds remaining, narrowing the gap to 47-37 in favor of Keystone.

Blue & White opened the fourth quarter with a layup by Laubach, assisted by Roberts, narrowing the gap slightly. However, Keystone quickly responded with a series of successful plays including a three-pointer by Tayana Bibbins and a layup by Alex Roos-Farmer, extending their lead. Despite defensive efforts and free throws by Merritt and Laubach, the Nittany Lions struggled with shooting accuracy, converting only 1 of 12 field goal attempts. Keystone capitalized on Berks' turnovers, adding points from fast breaks and paint efforts. Keystone's consistent scoring and strong rebounding sealed their momentum, closing the quarter with an 18–6 advantage. The game concluded with a score of 65–43 in favor of Keystone.

Roberts recorded six assists and collected nine rebounds, showcasing her playmaking ability on the court. Merritt posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding two steals.
