READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks fell to Wilson College, 67-46, at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center. Wilson capitalized on a 52-39 rebounding advantage and scored 18 points off turnovers to secure the victory.
This game marked Senior Day, and before the action kicked off, the Penn State Berks Athletic Department took a few moments to honor seniors Jayln Hann and
Hailey Miller for their contributions to the team.
Berks opened the game by taking an early lead with a successful jumper by
Hailey Miller, assisted by
Jalyn Hann.
Gianna Roberts contributed significantly by hitting two 3-pointers, including one at 2:25, helping the team maintain a competitive edge. The home team excelled in sharing the ball, recording four assists on their field goals. Despite these efforts, Wilson managed to stay close, capitalizing on their opportunities in the paint and at the free throw line. They captured the lead just before the quarter ended with a layup and free throw by Jewels Torres at the 3-second mark. The quarter concluded with the Blue & White trailing 13–10.
Wilson capitalized on their offensive momentum in the second quarter, opening with a strong 8-0 run that extended their lead. The Nittany Lions responded with key plays, including a jumper by
Gabrielle Merritt at 6:02 and a three-pointer from Miller at 1:14, assisted by Roberts. However, turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Wilson to maintain control. Despite a late push by the Blue & White, highlighted by a jumper from
Kiara Altine with 45 seconds remaining, the quarter closed with Wilson adding a last-second layup. The home team trailed 30-21 at the end of the second quarter.
The Nittany Lions faced a challenging third quarter, beginning with a quick layup by
Jalyn Hann at 8:44, assisted by Miller. Despite strong efforts, including a defensive rebound and a layup from Miller, the team struggled to match Wilson's pace. Wilson maintained momentum with several three-pointers and effective steals, creating a scoring gap. Berks capitalized on free throw opportunities, successfully converting seven out of eight attempts.
Abigail Pfander contributed significantly from the line, keeping the team within striking distance. The quarter concluded with Wilson leading 51–34, setting the stage for a pivotal final stretch.
Berks opened the fourth quarter with a defensive highlight, as Miller recorded a block at 7:06. Roberts then sparked the offense with a 3-pointer at 8:56, narrowing the gap. Despite efforts from the home team, including a 3-pointer from Merritt at 6:51, Wilson maintained their lead through efficient scoring. Throughout the quarter, Berks managed to force six turnovers and added two more blocks to their defensive tally. McKinzie Tritz contributed with a late jumper at 3:02 and made a key steal at 2:44. However, Wilson capitalized on second-chance opportunities, extending their advantage with key baskets, including a fast break layup at 1:09. Berks closed the quarter with a layup from Pfander with 25 seconds remaining. Despite their efforts, Wilson secured the win with a final score of 67-46, outscoring the Blue & White 16-12 in the quarter.
Roberts scored nine points, making three 3-pointers, and recorded five assists. Miller added 10 points, collected six rebounds, and tallied three steals. Tritz contributed with two steals and two points. Pfander finished with eight points and four rebounds.
