Red Hawks Overpower Lions

READING, PA. - The Penn State Berks Women's Soccer team was overpowered by Montclair State University, falling to the Red Hawks by a score of 5-1 on Monday, September 8.

The first half began with an early challenge for Penn State Berks as Montclair State took the lead in the 5th minute with a goal by Carly Guzzardo. Despite the pressure, goalkeeper Sophia Gonzalez made crucial saves, including a stop against Mackenzie Albert in the 10th minute, keeping the game within reach. However, the Red Hawks doubled their advantage in the 42nd minute with a goal from Samira Lukovic, putting the Nittany Lions at a 2-0 disadvantage heading into the half.

The second half began with Montclair State applying pressure early, leading to successive corner kicks in the 46th and 47th minutes. The Red Hawks capitalized on this momentum, with Kylie Prendergast scoring in the 60th minute, followed by a goal from Isabell Kronow three minutes later, assisted by Guzzardo. Despite the deficit, Paige Thomas responded for Berks with a goal in the 80th minute, a spectacular effort from outside the box that sailed just under the crossbar. However, Montclair State sealed the win with a late goal by Gianna Curci in the 88th minute, bringing the final score to 5-1.

Gonzalez recorded five saves in the match, facing a total of 24 shots. Thomas scored the team's only goal, converting her single shot on goal. Devon Deery registered one shot on goal.
