Women's Soccer Drops Competitive Match To Haverford

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks Women's Soccer Team dropped a highly competitive match-up with Haverford College by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday, September 10.

The first half saw Berks primarily on the defensive as Haverford applied early pressure, resulting in several corner kicks. Sophia Gonzalez made key saves in the 17th and 28th minutes, keeping the home team in contention. Despite a strong effort from Paige Thomas, whose shot was saved in the 35th minute, the Fords managed to find the net in the 21st minute through a goal by Abigale Baker, assisted by Caroline Flynn, leaving Penn State Berks trailing 1-0 at the end of the half.

The second half began with Lions continuing to make stout defensive plays, highlighted by Gonzalez's crucial saves, including a key stop in the 51st minute against Flynn. Despite a series of fouls that interrupted play, Thomas and Sydney Gonzalez each managed attempts on goal, with Sydney's shot in the 87th minute being denied by Haverford's goalkeeper. Berks kept the Fords under heavy pressure during the final 10 minutes, but they could not break though, falling 1-0.

Sophie Gonzalez recorded seven saves, facing 13 shots with one goal allowed. Sydney Gonzalez registered one shot on goal from her midfield position. Thomas finished with three shots, including one on target. Ashley Jocham contributed with a shot taken in the match.
