READING, Pa. - Penn St.-Berks (1-2, 0-0 UE) secured a 2-1 victory over Alfred State College (1-2, 0-0 AMC) on Saturday at Berks Turf Field with a decisive game-winning goal in the second half.
The first half featured a strong defensive effort from Penn St.-Berks, highlighted by
Sophia Gonzalez's impressive series of saves, including stops at the 5th and 10th minutes. Despite sustained pressure from Alfred State, the home team's resilience paid off when
Zoey Mortimer broke the deadlock in the 39th minute.
Devon Deery served a free kick into the box and Mortimer redirected the ball into the back of the net, securing a 1-0 lead.
Isabelle Wilkes contributed multiple attempts on goal, keeping the Alfred State defense on alert throughout the half.
The second half began with bang for Penn St.-Berks, as
Ashley Jocham scored in the 47th minute on a counterattack, with Mortimer dishing the assist, extending their lead to 2-0.
Sydney Gonzalez followed up with another attempt on goal shortly after, keeping the pressure on Alfred State. Despite a late goal from Kamryn Dawley for Alfred State in the 83rd minute, Penn St.-Berks maintained their advantage, bolstered by a crucial save from Gonzalez in the 86th minute, securing a 2-1 victory.
