HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Penn State Berks took the opening set but fell to Centenary (NJ) in four sets on Thursday, September 25th.
The Lions came out strong, winning the first set behind key plays from Karlie Kerschner, who delivered a string of service aces, and a late 6-0 run capped by a Mackenzie Davis ace. Emily Snader and Marissa Bailey contributed a crucial block, while Libby Swoyer and Ella Griffiths added kills to seal the opening set.
Centenary responded with dominant serving, finishing the match with 19 aces compared to seven for the Lions. Gabriella Miller and Jenny Thistlethwaite each recorded timely aces to swing momentum in sets two and three. The Cyclones used a 20-12 surge in the second set and a 25-14 win in the third to take control.
Despite a fourth-set push from Berks—featuring kills from Swoyer and Snader to tie the score at 14—the Cyclones pulled away late to close the match.
Snader led the Lions with four blocks and nine kills. Griffiths hit .389 with nine kills on 18 attempts, while Swoyer posted a double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs. Davis anchored the defense with a team-high 15 digs.

Penn State Berks returns to action Saturday, Sept. 27, on the road at Lancaster Bible College. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
