ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Penn State Berks Women's Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, September 20th vs. Elizabethtown College, with each team scoring one goal in the second half. Penn State Berks opened the first half as
Paige Thomas wasted no time making an attempt at goal in the 2nd minute. Despite several shots from
Zoey Mortimer and
Devon Deery, the team was unable to find the back of the net. Elizabethtown broke the stalemate in the 37th minute with a goal from Grace Tessier, assisted by Jenna Hoffmann, putting the home team ahead. The Nittany Lions continued to press forward but headed into the break trailing 1-0.
The second half commenced with
Sophia Gonzalez anchoring the defense for Penn State Berks, making crucial saves against Elizabethtown's offensive efforts. Despite Elizabethtown's persistent pressure, including multiple shots on goal, Gonzalez's solid performance in the net kept the home team at bay. The Nittany Lions capitalized in the 79th minute when
Faith Wavershak successfully converted a penalty kick, leveling the score at 1-1.
Wavershak scored one goal on her lone shot, converting a penalty opportunity for Penn St.-Berks. Gonzalez recorded three saves in goal, facing 20 shots while allowing just one goal. Zoey Macknicki contributed to the offense with two shots, one of which was on goal.
Ashley Jocham added two shots from her midfield position, though neither found the target.
