Lions Fall Short in Battle with LVC

READING, PA- The Penn St.-Berks Women's Volleyball team was swept in the match-up with Lebanon Valley College, falling by set scores of 25-17, 25-11, 25-11 on Wednesday, September 17 at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center. 

The Nittany Lions started the first set with determination, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit to level the score at 3-3, thanks to a service ace from Ella Griffiths and a kill by Madelyn Caris. Libby Swoyer contributed significantly with multiple assists, including one to Emily Snader, who capitalized with a key kill to keep the score tight at 9-9. Despite a valiant effort from the home team, which included a strong defensive block by Marissa Bailey and Caris, the Flying Dutchmen pulled away late in the set with a string of kills from Mattea Penner, securing a 25-17 victory.

The second set began with the Flying Dutchmen gaining an early 2-0 lead, capitalizing on a service ace and an attack error by Griffiths. As the set progressed, they extended their advantage through a series of successful plays, including a service ace and several attack errors by the home team, bringing the score to 14-3. Despite a late push from Berks, highlighted by Swoyer's service ace and Bailey's kill that narrowed the gap to 20-11, the Flying Dutchmen maintained their momentum and closed the set with a 25-11 victory.

The Nittany Lions faced a challenging third set against the Flying Dutchmen, ultimately falling 25-11. The set began with the Flying Dutchmen jumping to a 3-0 lead, capitalizing on attack errors by Caris. Penn State Berks struggled to gain momentum, with Swoyer providing assists but facing strong defensive plays from the opposition. Despite a late kill by Caris, the Flying Dutchmen maintained control, closing out the set with consistent scoring, including a decisive kill by Libby Lindau.

Swoyer contributed significantly with five assists and added a service ace in the match. Karlie Kerschner showcased her defensive skills by recording nine digs across three sets. Bailey made an impact at the net with two total blocks, including one solo. Caris recorded four kills and added five digs to her performance.
