Lions Fall To Golden Wolves

READING, PA -  The Penn State Berks Women's Volleyball Team was swept in straight sets, 25-18, 25-11, 25-22, by Alvernia University on Friday, September 19 at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center.

The Nittany Lions opened the first set with a quick point due to an attack error by Alvernia's Olivia Rohrbaugh but quickly fell into a back-and-forth battle. Swoyer contributed effectively with assists, setting up Caris and Hathcoat for key kills, bringing the score level at various points. Despite their efforts, the Golden Wolves capitalized on a series of attack errors and service aces, building momentum to take a decisive 25-18 win in the first set.

In the second set, Penn State Berks started strong with a 2-0 lead but Alvernia responded with a significant momentum shift, scoring 14 consecutive points, fueled by Stinsky's service aces and kills, to bring the score to 15-3. Despite a late rally by Berks, with Griffiths delivering back-to-back service aces, Alvernia secured the set 25-11 with a decisive kill from Salera.

The third set saw a competitive start with Penn State Berks taking an early 2-0 lead, capitalizing on an attack error by Rohrbaugh and a kill from Hathcoat. Alvernia responded with a 5-0 run, including a service ace from Evangelista, to knot the score at 8-8. Despite strong efforts from Caris and Griffiths, who contributed crucial kills in the latter stages, Alvernia's late surge, highlighted by consecutive service aces from Wolf, secured a 25-22 victory to close the set.

Swoyer contributed significantly with 11 assists and three digs over three games. Caris posted eight kills and nine digs, making a solid impact on both offense and defense. Kerschner led the defense with 13 digs and added one service ace. Griffiths recorded three service aces and 11 digs, highlighting her dual contributions in serving and defense.
