Baseball Takes One From Rosemont

Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Baseball Team split a pair conference games with Rosemont College on Monday, April 21. The Lions could not hold on to an early lead in game one, falling 10-4 before bouncing back to take game two, 13-7.
 
Berks (9-24 Overall, 6-8 UE) started fast, plating a pair of runs in the first inning. Travis Schiller reached base with a bunt single and then Andrew Seibert smashed a double into right center field, putting two runners in scoring position. Isaiah Dull lined a single up the middle, allowing both runners to score.
 
The Lions struck again in the bottom of the second inning. Jacob Berzonski started the action, reaching on an infield single. Logan Ewert then laid down a bunt, reaching base with a single, putting two runners on base. Cade Baugardner then reached base on a fielders' choice and a throwing error allowed Berzonski to score. Later in the inning, Seibert singled up the middle, allowing the Lions' fourth run of the game to score.
 
The Ravens (11-20 Overall, 5-7 UE) fought back, scoring four runs in the fifth inning and a run in each the seventh and eighth innings to capture a 6-4 lead. Berks tried to get the offense going in the bottom of the eighth inning, loading the bases, but they were unable to plate a run. Rosemont added four runs in the top of the ninth inning, earning the 10-4 victory.
 
Berks looked to bounce back in game two, once again striking in the bottom of the first inning. Landon Eyster and Seibert each reached base on errors, putting runners on the corners for Landon Reyes. Reyes blasted a double off the center field fence, allowing both runners to score. The Lions kept rolling, scoring again in the bottom of the second inning. Berzonski led off the inning by knocking a single through the left side. Ewert then stepped to the plate, belting a massive home run over the left field to put Berks ahead 4-0. The Lions added two more runs in the third inning, with Reyes picking up and RBI.
 
Rosemont quickly erased the deficit in the top of the fourth inning, scoring five runs to close back within a single run. Berks answered back in the home half of the inning. With Ewert on third base, Eyster stole second base, drawing a throw that allowed Ewert to score. Later in the inning, a wild pitch allowed Travis Schiller to score. Andrew Seibert also scored on a wild pitch later in the inning, giving Berks a 9-5 lead.
 
The Ravens added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, pulling within two runs and forcing starting pitcher Jacob Crisler from the game. Relief pitcher Justin Hefner came on and was excellent, pitching 5.0 innings and not allowing the Ravens to register another hit.

Berks put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth inning. Berzonski led off with a single and then Ewert belted his second home run of the game putting Berks ahead 11-7. Later in the inning, with runners on second and third, Dull doubled down the left field line, putting Berks ahead 13-7.

The Lions will travel to face Lebanon Valley College on Monday, April 22 in a single nine inning game. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
