St. Mary's City, MD- The Penn St. Berks Men's Basketball Team dropped a road contest against St. Mary's College of Maryland, falling to the Seahawks by a score of 78-56.
Berks (6-15 Overall, 5-9 UE) took an early lead as
Marquis Ferreira connected on an early 3-pointer.
Jaedon Mast and
Andre Ballard each finished layups to keep the Lions ahead 9-7.
Josh Mingledolph kept the early momentum going, swishing a 3-pointer. The Seahawks (13-10 Overall, 9-5 UE) answered back going on a 10-0 run to take an eight-point lead.
Kai Davis halted the momentum with a steal and score. Ferreira followed with another 3-pointer and Ballard added a layup to bring the deficit down to three. St. Mary's (MD) answered back, retaking a 12-point lead with 4:02 remaining in the opening half. The Blue & White made a late push, with
Jaedon Mast hitting a 3-pointer in transition. Several possessions later, Ballard finished another layup to slash the deficit down to four. The Seahawks scored on the final possession of the half, holding a 38-32 lead at the break.
Berks chipped away at St. Mary's (MD) lead early in the second half, as Ferreira splashed a 3-pointer. The Seahawks recaptured the momentum, going on an 11-2 run to retake a double digit lead. Mingledolph and Ferreira tried to stop the rally, each scoring baskets. St. Mary's (MD) took full control of the game, building a 21-point lead midway through the second half. Berks could not rally back, eventually falling by a score of 78-56.
The Lions were led offensively by Ferreira, who scored 15 points, hitting times from beyond the arc. Mingledolph racked up 12 points before fouling out. Davis added 10 points off the bench on 5-11 shooting.
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions will return home to host Saint Elizabeth University on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The game will be a Pink-Out benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Service of Berks County. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
