Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team could not capitalize on a great offensive performance by
Hailey Miller, falling to Saint Elizabeth 107-74 in their final home game on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Berks (2-20 Overall, 1-14 UE) fell behind early as the Eagles (14-10 Overall, 10-5 UE) raced out to an 11-3 lead in the opening four minutes.
Mahala Ruffner and
Ashlyn Clark tried to get the offense rolling, converting contested layups in the paint. Miller started to heat up toward the end of the quarter, scoring four quick points, but Berks trailed 30-15 heading into the second quarter. The Lions offense found a lot of success on the interior in the second quarter, scoring 10 points in the opening two minutes, led by Miller. The Lions were able to close within nine points, but Saint Elizabeth matched every basket, remaining ahead.
Jalyn Hann and Miller scored Berks' final 10 points of the half, but the Eagles held a 51-36 advantage at the break.
The Lions continued to attack the paint with Ruffner scoring the Lions first six points of the second half. Hann also found success in the lane, powering home several layups midway through the quarter.
Kylie Dunn added a 3-pointer just before the end of the quarter, but Berks trailed by 22 points heading into the final frame. The Lions continued to pour in layups in the fourth quarter, but they could not match the Eagles 3-point shooting, eventually falling 107-74.
Miller posted the best performance of her career, finishing the game with 27 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists. Hann was incredible efficient, racking up 16 points on 7-10 shooting and pulling in four rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. Clark reached double figures, scoring 13 points and added five rebounds. Ruffner also had success on the interior, finishing the game with 12 points and seven rebounds. Dunn connect twice from beyond the arc, finishing with six points. The Lions controlled the paint, holding a 48-38 advantage in points in the lane and racked up 21 second chance points. They also won the rebounding battle, holding a 51-42 edge on the glass.
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions conclude their season by traveling to face Rosemont College on Saturday, Feb. 15. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
