Lions Close Season with Road Victory

Bryn Mawr, PA- The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team concluded its season with a 66-55 road victory over Rosemont College on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Berks (3-20 Overall, 2-14 UE) wasted no time jumping out to 12-3 lead in the opening four minutes of the game, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Gabrielle Merritt. Jalyn Hann and Ashlyn Clark powered in layups as the Lions grew their advantage to 16 points at the end opening quarter. The Lions offense continued to find success in the paint, with a layup by Mahala Ruffner converting a layup to make the score 30-13. Later in the quarter, Abigail Pfander and Clark each knocked down jump shots to push the Blue & White's advantage to 22 points. The Lions closed the half on a 10-3 run, holding a 45-18 lead at the break.

Hailey Miller and Clark continued to attack the basket early in the third quarter, keeping Berks ahead. The Ravens (2-23 Overall, 2-14 UE) used an 8-2 run to pull back within 21 points later in the third quarter. Despite the late rally by Rosemont, Berks led 56-35, heading into the fourth quarter. The Ravens continued to chip away at the deficit, going on a 10-2 run early in the quarter, eventually closing within 10 points. Pfander converted two free throws and Clark hit a jump shot to stop the run and put Berks ahead by 14 points. The Lions held down the stretch for a 66-55 victory.

In her final collegiate game, Clark led the way with 20 points on 8-13 shooting while pulling in eight total rebounds. Merritt racked up 13 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing three assists. Ruffner also reached double figures, scoring 10 points and pulling in nine rebounds. Miller filled the stat sheet, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Lions dominated the glass, holding a 47-26 edge in rebounds, resulting in 11 second chance points.
