Reading, Pa- The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team fell in home match-up with Bryn Athyn College, dropping the match-up by a score of 81-47 on Saturday, Feb 1.
Before the game, the Penn St. Berks Athletic department joined the women's basketball team in celebrating Senior Day, taking a few moments to celebrate senior players
Ashlyn Clark and
Kylie Dunn.
Berks (2-17 Overall, 1-11 UE) was able to have some early offensive success with
Hailey Miller finishing a layup and
Kylie Dunn knocking down a jump shot in the opening three minutes. Bryn Athyn (16-5 Overall, 9-3 UE) began to pull away, going on an 11-0 run to take a 16-4 lead. Miller tried to halt the run, hitting a 3-pointer, but Berks trailed by 12 heading to the second quarter. The visiting lions continued to extend their advantage, going on a 10-2 run to open the second quarter.
Gabrielle Merritt swished a 3-pointer, halting the run momentarily. Bryn Athyn continued pushing, taking a commanding 26-point lead with 1:30 remaining in the opening half.
Mahala Ruffner and Miller added layups in the final minute, but Berks trailed 42-20 at the break.
The Blue & White got off to a better start in the third quarter, with Clark finishing a layup and Dunn connecting on a jump shot. Merritt and Clark each converted free throws as Berks closed back within 14 points. Bryn Athyn halted the Lions momentum, going on a 14-2 run to retake a 26-point lead with 2:59 remaining in the quarter. Berks converted some free throws down the stretch to make the score 61-39 heading into the final frame. The Blue & White struggled to generate offense in the fourth quarter as Bryn Athyn rapidly grew their lead, eventually picking up an 81-47 victory.
The Lions were led in scoring by Miller who scored 20 points to go along with six rebounds. Merritt pulled in seven rebounds to along with five points. The senior duo of Clark and Dunn combined for 11 points in the game.
Abigail Pfander added seven rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions will be back in action when they travel to the Nation's Capital to face Gallaudet on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
