Washington, D.C.- The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team dropped a road matchup with Gallaudet University, falling to the Bison by a score of 80-33 on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Berks (2-18 Overall, 1-13 UE) got off to a slow start allowing the Bison (13-9 Overall, 10-3 UE) to jump out to an early 12-0 lead. Gabrielle Merritt tried to get the offense going, knocking down a pair of shots. Abigail Pfander grabbed an offensive rebound and put back a layup to cut the deficit down to eight. Gallaudet scored the final nine points of the quarter to lead 23-6, heading into the second quarter. Jalyn Hann and Pfander matched baskets by the Bison early in the second quarter. Hailey Miller swiped a steal and converted a layup in transition. Ashlyn Clark converted a layup in the paint, drawing a foul and converting a free throw to complete a three-point play. The Bison matched each basket and then built a 46-17 lead at the break.

The Lions offense continued to sputter in the second half as Gallaudet built a 39-point lead. Morgan Dunbar and Clark tried to start the offense, but the Lions could not string together any baskets. Berks found some success in the final frame, with Miller hitting a 3-pointer midway through the quarter. Reagan Thorp and Mahala Ruffner added layups, but Berks could not start a rally, falling by a score of 80-33.

Clark led the Lions in scoring, racking up seven points to along with four rebounds. Merritt added six points while collecting seven rebounds. Ruffner led the Berks in rebounds, grabbing eight missed shots.

The Lions continue their road trip, traveling to face St. Mary's College (MD) on Saturday, Feb. 8. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
