WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn State Berks fell to Lycoming, 73–30, on Monday night. The Nittany Lions continued their early season road stretch, using the matchup as another chance to grow against a strong opponent.
Lycoming set the tone quickly, opening the game with a 20–0 first quarter. Despite the slow start, Berks created good looks at the basket but couldn't convert. Hann and Merritt pulled down defensive rebounds, and Miller worked inside, but Lycoming capitalized on fast breaks and second chance opportunities to build their early lead.
Berks found more rhythm in the second quarter, scoring 10 points behind baskets from Hann and Miller. Sonzogni added a jumper off an assist from Roberts, and Merritt helped on the boards as the Lions settled in defensively. Lycoming continued to score in the paint and added timely jumpers to take a 36–10 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Lions put together their strongest stretch of the game. Hann hit a pair of free throws early in the quarter, and Thorp powered in a layup. Merritt knocked down a three, and Miller added two baskets inside to help the Lions score eight points in the third. Despite the improved offense, Lycoming stayed hot from the field, hitting threes and scoring in transition.
In the fourth quarter, Berks continued to attack the basket and draw fouls. Thorp and Trtiz converted at the free-throw line, and Miller added another jumper as the Lions battled to the final buzzer. Lycoming maintained control throughout the quarter and closed out the game with a 73–30 win. Miller led the Nittany Lions with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal. Merritt added 5 points and 6 rebounds, while Hann finished with 4 points and 3 boards. Thorp scored 4 points off the bench, and Sonzogni chipped in 2.
