READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks fell to Washington College 79-65 at Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center, despite forcing 11 steals in the game.
The Nittany Lions began the half strongly with a successful 3-pointer by Marquis Ferreira, assisted by Jaedon Mast, to set the pace. A series of strong defensive plays, including two blocks and five steals, helped maintain their energy. Gabriel Harrison's layup and subsequent defensive rebound added to the team's assertive play.
Throughout the half, Luke Collins contributed with two crucial 3-pointers, keeping the score competitive. The team tied the game at 21 with Isaiah Cotten's free throws and later at 38 with Zach Prator's jumper. However, in the face of these efforts, the half ended with Washington College holding a narrow 43-40 lead.
The second half saw a significant momentum shift as Berks aimed to close the gap after trailing in the first half. Cotten provided a spark with multiple steals and layups, contributing to the Nittany Lions' efforts to keep pace with the Shoremen. Despite their defensive efforts, the home team faced challenges in converting opportunities, as evident from their shooting struggles.
Washington College capitalized on fastbreaks and points in the paint, holding on to their lead throughout the half. Berks managed to cut the deficit momentarily with a 3-pointer by Matthew Gingerich, assisted by Collins, but the Shoremen's consistent scoring extended their advantage. The half concluded with a 79–65 score in favor of Washington College.
Cotten scored 12 points and recorded three steals. Collins added 12 points, converting four 3-pointers and providing six assists. Ferreira posted 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and registered two steals. Harrison contributed eight points and two blocks.
