TOWSON, MD — Lehman College defeated Penn State Berks by a score of 86-51, at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center, capitalizing on 34 turnovers to secure the win. The game was held at Goucher College as part of the Renie Amoss Tip Off Classic.
The game began with the Blue & White showing early resilience as
Hailey Miller and
Jalyn Hann contributed points in the paint to maintain a tie at 4–4. However, Lehman capitalized on turnovers, resulting in a scoring run that put them ahead 14–6 midway through the quarter. Despite Berks' efforts at the free-throw line, Lehman's fast breaks and second-chance points extended their lead. Hann's jumper at 2:01 cut into the deficit slightly, but the quarter ended with Lehman leading 30–12.
Berks began the second quarter with a quick offensive burst, highlighted by
Jalyn Hann's 3-pointer and
Paige Sonzogni's jumper, narrowing the gap. Despite this early momentum, turnovers became an issue, allowing Lehman to capitalize and extend their lead.
Gabrielle Merritt contributed with a timely layup and an assist, but Lehman's efficient shooting and defensive pressure continued to challenge Berks. The quarter closed with a layup from
Abigail Pfander, yet Lehman maintained a strong advantage, leading 59-27.
The third quarter began with Lehman maintaining control through a scoring surge, while Berks struggled to find their rhythm. Merritt's layup at 8:14 was the only scoring response from the visitors, as turnovers hindered further offensive efforts. Despite defensive rebounds and blocks by Pfander, Berks could not halt Lehman's advance. Lehman capitalized on five steals and converted them into fast breaks, extending their lead as the period progressed. Berks managed several offensive rebounds but failed to convert them into points, closing the quarter trailing 82–29.
The Nittany Lions started the fourth quarter with a strong defensive effort, forcing Lehman into 12 turnovers and capitalizing on their mistakes.
Gianna Roberts initiated the scoring with a 3-pointer, assisted by Sonzogni, setting the tone for an impressive offensive display. The team maintained pressure throughout, with Miller and McKinzie Tritz contributing key steals that led to fast-break opportunities. The visitors continued to dominate by converting turnovers into points, highlighted by
Reagan Thorp's layup and subsequent free throw, narrowing the deficit.
Abbie Groy closed the quarter with consecutive layups, underscoring the team's ability to transition effectively from defense to offense. Despite the strong push, Berks trailed 86–51 at the final buzzer, after outscoring Lehman 22-4 in the quarter.
Hann led the team with 13 points, adding seven rebounds. Thorp was perfect from the field, scoring nine points on 3-for-3 shooting and converting all three free throws.
