SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, PA — Despite a strong first-half performance, Penn State Berks fell to Penn State Schuylkill 93-87 at the Penn State Schuylkill Gymnasium. In an impressive display, Penn State Berks set a new school record for 3-pointers made in a single game with 19, achieving a 52.8 percent success rate from beyond the arc.
Berks opened strong with
Marquis Ferreira hitting an early free throw following a technical foul. The visitors maintained momentum through accurate shooting, highlighted by 11 three-pointers on 21 attempts.
Quentin Wright and
Luke Collins contributed significantly from beyond the arc. The Nittany Lions capitalized on their assists, tallying 14 in the period, while controlling the boards with 16 rebounds. Despite Penn State Schuylkill's attempts to rally, including tying the game multiple times, Berks consistently found ways to regain the lead. Key plays from
Matthew Gingerich and
Cooper Truskey helped extend the advantage, and Collins' three-pointer at 1:12 solidified Berks' position. The visitors concluded the first half leading 51-45, establishing a confident start to the game.
Berks began the second half with a slim lead but faced immediate pressure from Penn State Schuylkill, quickly losing the advantage at the 19:41 mark. Ferreira responded with consistent scoring, including a crucial 3-pointer at 12:03 that extended their lead to eight, marking their largest of the half. However, Schuylkill countered effectively, capitalizing on turnovers and bench contributions to regain control. Despite efforts from the Blue & White, including a key steal and assist from Collins, the home team closed the gap with a late scoring surge. Schuylkill's Amir Gray made pivotal baskets, including a 3-pointer in the final seconds, securing a decisive momentum shift. The half ended with Schuylkill on top, 93-87, after a pair of free throws by Caden Mitchell.
Ferreira led the team with 20 points, converting 7 of 14 from the field, including four 3-pointers. Gingerich added 18 points and contributed eight rebounds, while also dishing out seven assists. Collins scored 17 points, making five 3-pointers and recording five assists.
Zach Prator finished with 11 points and collected five rebounds.
