Men's Soccer Drops Highly Competitive Battle

READING, PA - Penn St.-Berks dropped a highly competitive match to St. Mary's (MD) by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday, October 15 at Berks Turf Field.

The first half began with Berks establishing their presence on the field, with goalkeeper Josh Martin making multiple key saves to keep the game close. Martin stopped shots from St. Mary's players Nick Haney and Sam Santos in the early stages, maintaining a scoreless draw until the 27th minute. Despite the Nittany Lions' efforts, including shots by Terridine Grant and Nathan Fatkin, St. Mary's (MD) broke the deadlock with a goal by Santos, assisted by Haney, putting the visitors ahead. The Nittany Lions continued to press forward, generating opportunities through shots from Emir Hamzic and Keegan Redcay. While Martin remained active in goal with additional saves, the home team was unable to convert their chances. The first half concluded with St. Mary's holding a 1-0 lead.

The second half began with St. Mary's maintaining offensive pressure, highlighted by a series of corner kicks and shots. Berks' defense, led by goalkeeper Martin, responded effectively, with Martin recording important saves to keep the visitors from adding to their tally. Despite St. Mary's persistent attacks, including a shot hitting the woodwork in the 89th minute, the Nittany Lions held firm defensively. Throughout the half, the home team attempted to counteract, but they faced challenges breaking through St. Mary's defense, including two offside calls. Berks unable to capitalize on opportunities to equalize falling by a score 1-0.

Martin recorded 10 saves, with six in the first half and four in the second half. Grant and Fatkin each contributed one shot, although neither was on target. Redcay made an offensive effort by taking one shot that was on goal.
